Calculations are made with public-domain astronomical algorithms and are believed accurate to within arc-minutes, but Umbriel makes no warranty of accuracy, completeness or fitness for any purpose and may contain errors. Results depend on the birth data you enter.
You are solely responsible for any decision or action you take. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Umbriel, its creators and contributors are not liable for any loss, harm or damages of any kind arising from your use of the site or reliance on its content. You use it at your own risk.
The site is intended for users aged 18 and over.
Charts are computed in your browser. By default, birth details, saved people, journal entries, progress and settings are stored locally on your device (in your browser), not on a server, and clearing your browser data removes them. Some features are opt-in and do send data when you choose to use them: birth-place search sends the place text to the OpenStreetMap geocoding service, and if you create an account, join the community, make a purchase, or turn on cloud sync, the data those features need is sent to our provider (currently Supabase and, for payments, Stripe). When you turn on sync, your personal data (birth details, saved people, journal and notes) is encrypted in your browser before it is sent, so it is stored as ciphertext rather than plain text. So that a forgotten password doesn't lock you out of your own data, we keep a securely-held recovery key that lets a verified password reset restore it — which means we could, in principle, decrypt your synced data, though we only ever do so to enable your recovery and never to read or share it. You can delete synced data at any time. We do not sell your data or use hidden tracking.
Paid one-time items (such as individual in-depth readings) are digital goods delivered instantly and unlocked on your device. Because they are consumed immediately, they are generally non-refundable except where required by law. Payments are handled by Stripe; we never see your card details.
Membership is an optional paid subscription that unlocks the member features. It is billed through Stripe on a recurring basis — monthly or yearly, depending on the plan you choose — and renews automatically at the then-current price each billing period until you cancel. You can manage or cancel anytime from the “Manage or cancel membership” link in the app (which opens the Stripe billing portal). Cancelling stops future charges, and your access continues until the end of the period you have already paid for. Payments made in advance are generally non-refundable except where required by law. If a payment fails or you cancel, the member features simply return to the free tier — your data stays.
If you post in the community, please keep it kind. You are responsible for what you share, and by posting you confirm it is yours to share. Anything you post is public and visible to everyone — don’t include private or sensitive information you wouldn’t want seen. No harassment, hate, threats, spam, impersonation, or illegal content. You keep ownership of what you write; you simply grant Umbriel permission to display and distribute it within the service. We may remove content or accounts that break these rules. If something shouldn’t be here, please report it — flag the post, or email hello@umbrielastrology.com.
