What numerology actually is
Numerology reduces dates and names to single digits (plus the master numbers 11, 22 and sometimes 33) and reads each result as a theme. Your Life Path comes from your full birth date and is traditionally treated as the spine of the chart. The name-based numbers — Expression, Soul Urge and Personality — come from converting the letters of your full birth name to numbers.
The part most calculators skip is the timing layer. Your Personal Year cycles 1 through 9 and is often used as an annual checkpoint. The four Pinnacles and Challenges divide life into age bands — the first running to around 30, then three roughly nine-year chapters — each with a theme and a corresponding difficulty. Umbriel calculates all of them and marks which band you're in now.
Numerology is old, widespread and entirely symbolic. Nothing about the digits of a date causes anything. What the system offers is a small, memorable vocabulary for reflection — and the Personal Year in particular works well as a once-a-year prompt to ask what chapter you're actually in.

Common questions
How do I calculate my Life Path number?
Add every digit of your birth date and reduce to a single digit — except 11, 22 and 33, which are traditionally kept as master numbers. Umbriel does it for you, and shows the working so you can follow the arithmetic.
Which name should I use for the name numbers?
The convention is your full name exactly as it appears on your birth certificate, including middle names, even if you never use them now. Some practitioners also read your current name separately as a second layer.
What is a Personal Year number?
A number from 1 to 9 that changes each year and cycles every nine. Many people use it as an annual checkpoint — a prompt to ask what this chapter is for — rather than as a prediction.
