The five Human Design types
Human Design sorts people into five types by which energy centres are defined in their chart and how those centres connect. The type is the first thing most people meet, and it is genuinely the shallowest part — but it is a reasonable place to start.
- Generator · ~37%Here to build, and to master work you genuinely love. Strategy: to respond — wait for something to respond to, then feel the gut’s yes/no.
- Manifesting Generator · ~33%Here to build fast — multi-passionate, allowed to skip steps. Strategy: to respond, then inform before you leap.
- Projector · ~20%Here to guide — to see and direct others’ energy deeply. Strategy: to wait for the invitation (for the big things: love, work, place).
- Manifestor · ~9%Here to initiate — to get things moving and impact the world. Strategy: to inform before you act.
- Reflector · ~1%Here to mirror — a barometer for the health of your community. Strategy: to wait a full lunar cycle (~28 days) before big decisions.
Your type is not your chart
Two people of the same type can have almost nothing else in common. The type is decided by a single structural question — which centres are defined and whether a motor reaches the Throat — and everything that makes a chart specific to you sits underneath it: your authority, your profile, which of the nine centres are open, and which of the sixty-four gates were active at your birth.
Human Design is a modern synthesis assembled in the late 1980s, not an ancient tradition, and it is not science. Umbriel offers it as a structured way to look at yourself, never as a fact about who you are.
