What's new in Umbriel

Umbriel is an astrology app that works in your browser: you can cast a birth chart free, with no account and no email. This page lists what has been added to it, newest first, grouped by the Moon each addition arrived under.

It is written from the same list the app shows in its own Digest, and rebuilt from that list whenever Umbriel is updated, so the two always agree. Repairs are left out here; the Digest inside the app lists those as well.

The Moon of October 2026

New Moon 10 October to New Moon 9 November12 releases

  • The Old Books. The bookshelves in House IX's room now open the Old Books: William Lilly's Christian Astrology, Ptolemy's Tetrabiblos and Alan Leo's Astrology for All, word for word, with the old words explained in the margin. Read a chapter to the end for 2°, and the room stamps your passport with Bayer's eagle from his 1603 star atlas.
  • An old voice under your reading. Open a planet on your chart and a line from the old books sits under the reading, chosen the way Lilly chose: his kind words for a planet at home or exalted, his hard ones for a planet in exile or fall.
  • The library, open to anyone. All three books can be read without the app, free, at the Old Books library.
  • Your chart ends with one next step. The foot of your chart now ends with three things in order: the rest of your own reading, a sealed minute when the Moon next crosses one of your planets (with a calendar alarm), and an empty seal beside yours for someone to add their birthday.
  • The chart page in your language. In every language under Display in Settings, the birth form and the chart page's buttons, headings and notes now speak it, down to the house numbers.
  • The 2027 eclipses. The eclipses of 2027 has a page of its own: all five, worked out by the app and checked against NASA, a birthday box that finds the ones that touch your chart, and a calendar file to keep them.
  • Every eclipse in the tables. The ephemeris now lists every eclipse from 1900 to 2050, and each eclipse's own page names its exact minute and how much of the Sun or Moon is covered.
  • Famous charts link their signs. On every one of the famous charts, the signs in the opening line now open that sign's page.

  • Five more free sign calculators. Your Mercury, Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto signs, and your Descendant, each with its exact degree and house, answered on the first screen of your chart.
  • A way back under the answer. When a calculator answers on your chart, one line under the answer offers to keep the chart, then to tell you when the sky reaches it, then the app on Google Play or your iPhone's home screen.
  • Every calculator says the plain facts. Each page under Free calculators now says, beside its button and in its search listing: free, no account, no email, runs in your browser.
Earlier in this Moon: 9 releases

  • The app in Chinese and Arabic. Choose 中文 or العربية under Display in Settings: the charts and the readings speak it, and Arabic reads right to left.
  • The free lessons in eight more languages. Every free lesson in the University now has its own page in German, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Turkish and Chinese, and a translated lesson opens the app in its language.
  • From an answer to your whole chart. Under the answer on a calculator such as Solar Return, one line opens your whole chart from the same birthday, with nothing to type again.
  • Every page points to its lesson. The sign, planet and house pages, and 40 more calculators, now link the free lesson that teaches them, so learning it is one tap from reading it.
  • Membership the moment you pay. Pay for membership and your account is ready at once, with no email link to wait for, and the page opens on the price with "or $9.99 a month" right beside Start.

  • Settings in one place. A small gear at the top of the app opens one Settings page: Account, Privacy & safety, Notifications, Display, and Help & about. Backup, delete account, the muted list, hidden words and appeals moved here from My Space, which keeps a line pointing at each.
  • Your account, in your hands. In Account you can change your email or your password while signed in, sign out everywhere at once, and see your plan; in Privacy & safety you can see who you have blocked and unblock them.
  • A chart without a birthplace. On the chart form, if you do not know the birthplace yet, say so and cast anyway: you get the planets for the day, without houses or a rising sign, and one line on the chart lets you add the place later and recast with everything kept.

  • Gene Keys, written. Every sphere on Gene Keys (Life's Work, Attraction, Pearl and the rest) now opens a card written for that sphere, that key and that line, free.
  • A square behind House XI. In the town, House XI's back door leads through to a cobbled square with lamps where other people's dolls stand. You talk in sky phrases and gestures; nothing typed ever reaches it.
  • Notices in plain words. A push notice from the app now says what happened in the sky and what it means for you, without degrees, and tapping it opens the full version with the exact numbers. Every one is kept in a list.
  • The engraved map. Astrocartography and Local Space are drawn in ink on paper, and the line you pick shows in red chalk.
  • 108 more famous charts. People in the news these two weeks now have charts of their own on the famous charts page (Barbara Palvin, Dylan and Cole Sprouse, Vivek Ramaswamy, Tom Skerritt and 103 more), 4,482 in all.
  • Saved charts, in one order. Your saved charts now sort the same way everywhere you see them: A to Z, By category, newest, oldest, most used, least used, or most sky today. Pick an order on People and the chart page and every list of saved charts follows it, and a phone that never chose starts at A to Z.
  • Your categories, as headings. Choose By category and the "Load a saved chart" list on the chart page puts each of your categories on its own heading, with the charts underneath.
  • Full House says what it earned. When the file lands from Every calculator, one file, the screen now reads "Full house cast" with the total degrees you earned from all of it.

  • 180 more famous charts. Anyone who was in the news this past week with a known birth date and place now has a chart on the famous charts page of their own (RJ Mitte, Selma Blair, Tenzing Norgay, Tyler Huntley, Miranda Hart and 175 more), and every famous chart now has its own picture to share.

  • The town, from every page. Every page on the site now ends with a "Walk the town" link to the neighbourhood.
  • The planet worlds speak your language. Saturn's rings, Jupiter's storm city and Pluto's underworld in the neighbourhood now read in all seven languages.
  • Free Kundli and the Full House, on the calculators hub. The calculators page links both, and its structured list now names every calculator.

  • The planets come alive. In the neighbourhood, each planet of your birth chart wears its own surface, moves like itself, speaks when you walk up to it, and remembers you the next time.
  • Three planet worlds. In the neighbourhood: one lap of Saturn's ring road is one Saturn cycle, marked in your own years; Charon rows you down your life through Pluto's underworld, with a lantern at every real crossing of your Pluto; and your Jupiter lap runs on a road of cloud bands with a Wheel of Fortune at each turning point.
  • A ferry to the Moon, and a map of the world. In the neighbourhood, a cannon by the road out fires you to the gate of the Moon's land, and the Ring is now a world map: your town and the ferry's route in the middle, fog over the lands you have not stood in yet.
  • The town as an engraving. The neighbourhood is drawn in hatch lines on paper now, like the rest of the plates.
  • Umbriel speaks Italian. A seventh language: the whole app, set from a phone set to Italian, with its lessons in Learn.
  • The town speaks your language. The buttons, house sheets, the Ring and the ferry in the neighbourhood now read in all seven languages, and so does the first screen and every room's placard.
  • Home is Uranus. From your first visit, Home tells you that Umbriel's home is Uranus, and where the real Uranus is today.
  • Calculator pages open on their answer. Coming from a calculator page into the app, the room opens on the thing you asked for (your Lilith, rising sign, Moon, houses, dasha), not on a blank form. Many of those pages also have a lighter first screen, long sections folded under Deeper., and a next door.
  • Astrocartography opens with both maps. The map room arrives with both maps open and the membership wall in view after them, instead of before.
  • A real sound in every land. Each of the thirteen lands in the neighbourhood loops a real recording, and a tap there has its own sound.
  • Eleven more rooms show their picture after one press. Progressions, the draconic chart, lunar return, profections, degree images, Saturn return, the synthesis, firdaria, decennials, distributions and primary directions each show their wall after a single press.
  • A misspelt birth place gets help. Typing a city wrong in the birth form asks "did you mean", and a failed lookup offers a way through, on the chart page and everywhere that asks for a place.
  • Tap the name to open the Atlas. The name around the wheel at the foot of the screen opens the Atlas; a drag still turns the wheel.
  • The wheels work from a keyboard. The Daily Arc and My Arc wheels, and the seals on Grow, are one stop each for the Tab key, and the arrow keys move between planets and seals.
  • The Waiting Room, found by search. Typing "waiting" in search now takes you to the Waiting Room.

  • Umbriel speaks Russian. A reader wrote to ask for it, so now the whole app, every lesson in Learn and Ask your chart read in Russian. A phone set to Russian gets it by itself; anyone can choose Русский in the language menu.
  • Read Along, in six languages. The free 18-lesson Read Along course in Learn is now in Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Turkish and Russian, so every lesson exists in every language the app speaks.
  • The Descent, rebuilt. Lilith's descent is seven gates from Saturn down to the Moon: a cloakroom ticket burns at each one, a courtier from your own chart waits behind it, and the strongbox at the bottom keeps what you choose to leave. In all six languages.
  • Harmonic charts, with the working shown. A new free page and room trace every harmonic placement back to its natal degree and say whether a pattern is the chart's own or inherited from the first harmonic.
  • Essential dignity and almuten. A new free page scores every planet by the traditional table and names the almuten of any degree, with an honest verdict when nothing scores.
  • Your chart as data. A new free page gives a birth chart as plain text, Markdown or JSON side by side, and the natal copy card in the chart tools has Markdown and JSON buttons with a provenance line at the top.
  • Today's card has a text twin. In Daily Arc, the postcard comes with a plain-text copy that pastes anywhere, and a row of your twelve houses showing which of today's planets sit in each.
  • The town remembers you. Come back to the neighbourhood after days away and find a pile of dated envelopes with what the real sky did meanwhile; each room has your wall, the Moon's land has a gathering, every land has its own pop and buzz, and a tap inside a land does that land's verb.
  • The Ring earns a token. In the neighbourhood, a filled lunar month earns a token for the town, and each land's stamp is made in that land's own medium.
  • The lands grow. In the neighbourhood, Aquarius adds a contraption each time a planet enters it, built from real 1886 Tissandier plates; Cancer keeps a flip-through book of your plates; Gemini's third card hides at the edge; Leo pastes a daily playbill worked out from the real sky.
  • Lessons, clearer. In Learn, the dignities are taught from one picture, and the eight starter lessons explain every word before using it.
  • Three more rooms in five languages. Chinese zodiac, Mayan day sign and Birth time rectification, with Ask your chart, Your week and the daily read's vocabulary, now read in Spanish, French, German, Portuguese and Turkish.
  • Birth time sensitivity in Spanish. The Spanish page sorts the techniques by how much a wrong birth time hurts them.

  • Read Along with Umbriel. A free 18-lesson course in Learn: an astrologer reads one real chart a layer at a time, then two charts together, and every lesson ends with one thing to try on your own chart.
  • How sure is your birth time? A new free page sorts fourteen techniques by whether they still hold if your birth time is a few minutes out, an hour or two out, or only the day is known.
  • Five more planet returns. Free Mercury, Venus, Mars, Chiron and Uranus return calculators give every date a planet comes back to where it was when you were born, checked against NASA JPL Horizons.
  • Shapes in your chart. A finder for the patterns planets make together (Yod, Grand Trine, T-square, Grand Cross, Kite, Mystic Rectangle, Grand Sextile), each with its own free page, like the Yod calculator.
  • Good and hard days in Vedic astrology. Tarabalam, Chandrabalam and Chandrashtama pages count from your birth Moon which days this month are on your side.
  • Pick a good day. The free Electional Astrology page opens the room that searches the calendar for a well-timed moment to start something.
  • Twenty calculators get dressed. The twenty busiest calculator pages, like Rising Sign and Synastry, now open on a light stage of real old prints, lighter on a phone.
  • Forty-five more people. Forty-five more birth charts join the people pages, each with its own reading and share picture.
  • Paid lessons go deeper, again. In Learn, every paid lesson that felt thin is now longer and fuller, from Draconic and Declinations to Harmonics.
  • A passport of rooms. In the house plan, each room of your chart stamps a small passport the first time you open it, cut from that room's own old print.
  • The paper follows the Moon. In the chart tools, the paper takes on today's Moon, and each house door has a line in its own voice.
  • Notes in the margin, and a sky for the group chat. Small pencil notes sit in the margins of your chart and the Lunar Dial, and People makes a card of today's sky for two to five of your saved people, made to be screenshotted.
  • The town keeps a story. In the neighbourhood, the small 3D town built from your chart, a shadow follows you as you come back, the Cave opens after dark, and Umbriel says at most one true line a day about where you have been.
  • Small rooms get a tap. The fortnight envelope, life list, birth echo, look-up, observatory, path and placement meanings in the chart tools each open with one thing to try.
  • Every language is complete. The new map, stamps and small rooms are now in Spanish, French, German, Portuguese and Turkish too.

  • About two hundred rooms redrawn. Across nine families, from the chart tools to Play, Learn and your account, each room now stands on a light stage with a real old print, one tap to try, and the answer laid out like a printed plate.
  • Each house is its own world. The twelve houses on the house plan each wear their own paper, numeral, creature and small printing accident, and the other wisdom systems now live in the ninth house.
  • The house plan grows into a map. The house plan opens onto a wheel of the twelve worlds, with a row for every house you have visited.
  • The waiting room. The waiting room keeps the dates you are waiting on, worked out fresh from the sky, and your Lunar Return names the soonest one too.
  • Points and a daily guess. The ledger keeps your degrees in one place, exploring earns them, the total sits at the top of the page, and there is a sixty-second guess each day.
  • Copy this page, everywhere. Every room in the app has a Copy this page button beside Listen, so you can paste a whole reading wherever you like.
  • The Daily Arc in seven screens. The Daily Arc is seven short screens, one job each, and a first visit is dressed before it paints.
  • Deep folds open with a picture. On your chart, the deep folds (who rules whom, the chart's shape, declinations, morning and evening stars, critical degrees) open with a drawn figure before the table.
  • A placement, in full. Each chart tool has a door to its own single reading for $4.44, now including the Liliths and Human Design, all on one shelf in the Store.
  • Umbriel's own chart is the example. Empty rooms and the birth-form hints in Natal now show Umbriel's own chart, with its story.
  • Six more calculators in Spanish. Lilith, astrocartography, solar return, houses, Vedic and horary are now in Spanish too.
  • Paid lessons go deeper. In Learn, the Synastry, Composite, Transits, Evolutionary and Traditional lessons are longer and fuller.

  • Aries keeps a matchbook. In the neighbourhood, the first label you strike each day is kept in a book, and a chip in the corner opens a paper page of them, newest first.
  • Taurus remembers an anniversary. On the yearly anniversary of the day you first planted something in the neighbourhood, a taller packet with a gold ring stands up in Taurus.
  • Scorpio ends on your Moon. If you have a chart with a birth time, Scorpio's closing sentence in the neighbourhood now ends on your own Moon sign.
  • Where to next, on famous charts. Public-figure chart pages now offer up to two places to go next: other charts of the same sign that people are already finding in search.

  • The lands come alive. Past the edge of the neighbourhood, your doll walks the side-on lands with a real stride (and breathes when she stops), Gemini is a Victorian stereoview stage whose twin halves slide apart, and Cancer is a cyanotype garden of sea-ferns and kelp under a sweeping lighthouse beam.
  • This week's names in the news. The public-figure chart pages gain 99 more people who have been in the news, 4,149 in all.
  • A cast button on the first screen. Every sign, planet, house, aspect, compatibility and famous-chart page has one red button to cast your own chart, free, right under its title.
  • The most-asked calculators come first. The calculators page opens with a Most asked strip: rising sign, Big Three, Moon sign and Human Design.
  • Search understands plain words. "rising sign", "mi signo", "where should I live", "check a city" and "what's new" now find the right room in the app's search.
  • The Digest folds by Moon. Each Moon's releases fold away, the newest shows its latest three, and a search box and date picker find any release in What's new.

  • Twelve lands past the edge of town. Walk the road out of the neighbourhood and there is a land for each sign, in zodiac order, each its own place. The Ring shows which land the real Moon is in tonight and when it moves on, with a stamp for every land you have stood in.
  • 23 more famous charts. The public-figure chart pages now number 4,050, with this week's names in the news added.
  • A door to Umbriel's moon. On the right edge of the road before the gate there is now a door to a wall where hand shadows come alive, in the neighbourhood.

  • Buy a report in one tap. Pick the chart and Pay is right there. Tailoring (house system, orbs) and the free short version wait, folded, for anyone who wants them, and the usual choices are already made.
  • The $4.44 readings have a way in. With no chart saved, the Short readings in the Store ended on a line and a gap. There is an Add birth details button there now.

  • Zodiacal releasing goes four levels deep. Levels 3 and 4 are there now in Zodiacal releasing, with dates on the birth clock, so you can see the short periods inside the long ones.
  • Four new sky-search tools. Find when a planet sits close to the Sun (any year from 1800 to 2100), how long a planet stays in each sign, how many days each planet spends in each sign in a calendar year, and when the sky looked like a given pattern.

  • A lighter first visit. The whole app is about 40% smaller to download the first time you open it, from 3.6 MB to 2.2 MB, so it wakes up faster on a phone.
  • Every page names its own tab. Your tab, your history and a screen reader now say Store, Tarot or Moon Phase Calendar, where every room used to share one line.
  • Buying a report starts where you are. No chart saved yet? Add your birth details right on the report page and carry on, or use the chart you just cast with one tap. Signing in carries you straight on to the payment.

  • 68 more famous charts. The public-figure chart pages now number 4,025, with this week's names in the news added.
  • The house plan in four more languages. The plan of the house, the string board, the Store heading and the room greetings now speak Spanish, French, German and Turkish.

  • Charts start with the chart. Charts is now just the picker: choose the chart first, then who it is for, you, a friend or someone famous, and the tool opens already set up. Search finds synastry and 19 other textbook names.
  • Your chart comes first. On the natal chart the wheel is the first thing on screen. The buttons live in one Chart options fold under it, and the foot of the page is three things: keep it, share it, compare it.
  • The Store has four tabs. The Store is now Membership, Reports, Contribute and Yours, instead of one long page.
  • Five things nobody has told you. Your chart's five rarest exact facts, written like a friend telling you, free for everyone from the Store.
  • Juno in every sign. Twelve more written readings, so all twelve signs of Juno now sit with the rest in the Store: 204 in all.
  • Save any wheel as a picture. Every chart wheel can be saved as a picture, in colour or in black and white.
  • The wheel's tools sit under the wheel. On natal, transits, synastry, asteroids, composite, Davison, solar return and progressions, the controls are in words directly under the wheel, with the extras switched off until you want them.
  • Choose how the houses are cut. Composite, Davison, solar return and progressions each get a house-system row, and progressions can use the angle method you prefer. Minor aspects can be switched on for the composite, Davison and synastry wheels.
  • Solar return somewhere else. Solar return can be cast for another city, and progressions can show the fast planets only.
  • Daily Arc and My Arc. Daily Arc is now the sky everyone shares. My Arc is the sky for you.
  • A better plan of the house. Each room on the house plan is a tiny picture of that room, with how many people have been in it. Locked rooms are drawn as locked doors, and one room a day is the Special, worth 10 degrees.
  • Roman numerals, smaller. The numeral on a room sits small beside the house line, so the title gets the room.

  • One Store. Membership, single readings and written reports now sit together in one Store room, and anything you have bought waits for you there under Yours.
  • A reading for every placement. Every planet in every sign has its own written reading in the Store, filled in from your own chart: 192 of them.
  • Pick the asteroids for each chart. When you compare two charts in synastry, each person gets their own list of asteroids, and the contacts between them are drawn on the double wheel. The Asteroids page also opens full screen now.
  • The synastry grid. Every aspect between two charts laid out in one grid, one tap from the aspect list in synastry.
  • From the map to the chart. On the astrocartography map, every city's answer has a button that opens your chart as if you had been born there.
  • A plan of the house. Umbriel is laid out like a house, each part of the app a room. Tap the eclipse at the top, and a new first row opens its plan: the rooms you have found, the ones still to find, and the windows lit where someone is reading right now.
  • Rooms that feel lived in. Each wing has a resident who greets you the first time, the day's planet lights one door, and you can leave a single word on a room for the next person, such as curious.
  • A gift on a friend's step. The neighbourhood is a small 3D town built from your chart. Pick a print from your album, send a friend the link, and it waits on the step of their house in their town.
  • A print on every year page. Each of the 302 retrograde and Moon phase year pages now opens with an old print and its credit.
  • 75 more famous charts. The public-figure chart pages now number 3,957, with the week's names in the news added.

  • Retrograde dates and Moon phases for any year. A page for every year from 1900 to 2050, with the exact dates.
  • A real print on 36 reference pages. Every planet, sign and house page now opens with an old print chosen for it, with its credit.
  • Single library readings. A reading from the library can be bought on its own from the Reports room.

  • Room placards. Every room now hangs a small card: why go in, where to start, and where its doors lead.
  • Ask your chart. Twelve questions you can put to your own chart, each with a written answer.
  • Between us this week. In a room for two, the transits to your pair chart and the days you both feel them, also on Today and in the Monday email.
  • What to do with a hard transit. A doable line under every transit, hard or flowing, plus the best flow of the week.

  • My Tasks. A to-do list that lives with your chart. Tasks can repeat, can carry a reminder, and can be folded under a project.
  • Live Sky. Where every planet is right now, drawn as it moves.
  • Listen to any long reading. Every long page has a Listen bar that reads it aloud, so you can put the phone down and hear your chart.
  • Your Room is a sticker book. Your own page in Umbriel fills with stickers as you explore, each one tied to a part of your chart.
  • A room for two. Add another person's chart and you get a shared room: how you two fit together, plus a Saved shelf for the readings you want to keep with your own words on them.
  • Win your streak back. If a run of seven or more days breaks, three visits in the week that follows bring it back. No public zero, and the line simply goes if the week passes.
  • Pick up where you left off. Today shows a this-week card with the thing you were last reading, ready to open again.
  • Year Wrapped. A card that looks back over your year of charts and visits, made to share.
  • Sensory corner, Stimming Shelf and the Colour studio. Quieter, calmer ways to use Umbriel: gentle textures to press, and colour choices you can set for your own eyes.
  • Old prints on the walls of the twelve other-systems rooms. Rooms for Human Design, Vedic astrology, numerology and the rest now hang antique prints that teach what the room is about.
  • First-time moments. The first time you do something in Umbriel, like your first chart or first saved reading, it marks the moment.
  • Home-screen shortcuts and a badge. Add Umbriel to your phone's home screen and press and hold the icon to jump straight to your chart, Today or your notepad.
  • Membership, explained on one page. umbrielastrology.com/membership/ says what is free and what a membership adds, and it is linked from the footer of every page.
  • Every page has #history and #reports in the footer. "What this sky made before" shows what happened in the world under the same sky, and Reports lists the written readings you can buy.
  • Your chart page in three folds. Under Explore further you get your chart in plain words, your houses and your aspects, and every other section sits under one closed More depth.
  • Transits open on the reading. The three contacts that matter today come first on the Transits page, above the wheel.
  • The long timing pages start with the reading. Solar Return, Progressions, Draconic, Harmonics, Lunar Return and Profections now open on what they say about you, not on the tools.
  • The Fixed Stars page is folded. The 277 named stars are one tap away, so the page reads in a moment instead of a long scroll.
  • What's inside. A short list under the Cast the chart box on a first visit: any moment, drawing a transit, two charts, the university and the town.
  • 24 more famous charts. The public-figure chart pages now number 3,855, each with a birth chart and a reading, free, with no account and no email.

  • Today puts the sky first. The wheel and the day's plate come first; the small rituals have a shelf of their own in Play.
  • Look Up. On the day of a real eclipse or a close meeting of two planets, a moment on Today tells you when and where to look, and you can leave one line about what you saw.
  • The Sit. Ten minutes with the sky hidden, three words, then the sky at that minute.
  • Sealed Until. Write something and seal it until a sky event you choose, then write a line back once it opens.
  • The Seed Drawer. Small things to start, stamped with the Moon they were planted under.

  • Synastry, free. The two-person wheel, every aspect and both house overlays, numbers first, with a plain line on what the score does and does not mean.
  • Show me why. One tap from any daily sentence tells you where it came from.
  • More small rituals. The Moon Comes Home marks each return of the Moon to your natal degree. The Fortnight Envelope seals a question at the New Moon and hands it back at the Full Moon. The Daily Sky Puzzle is the same for everyone and the engine marks it. Same Day, Other Years stacks one date across your years, and the Forecast Ledger keeps the sky's line for today beside how often it fit.
  • Test the sky yourself. The Sealed Envelope, the Vagueness Dial, Receipts, the Birth-Sky Echo, the Moment Machine, the Birth-Time Wobble and Margin Creatures each put astrology to a test you can run on your own life, and each says what chance alone would do.
  • Old prints on the walls. Home, Worth, Play and the Sun's season now hang real old prints that teach the house, and every print opens its own history.
  • Scorpio season. A hush, the Day of the Dead, and Mars and Pluto as its hosts.

  • Small rituals built on the real sky. Nine free ones, a minute or two each. The Sky Ribbon asks what colour your sunset is and weaves a year of them. The Nothing Bell rings two quiet minutes while the Moon is void of course. Adopt-a-Rock gives you the asteroid the Moon is nearest today. Draw the Moon has you guess the lit edge before it shows the real one.
  • Four more rituals. The Sunday Sentence strings one word a day into a sentence. The Tightest Pair finds today's most exact aspect. A Postcard to the Star goes to the star the Sun is passing. The Backwards Shelf holds one thing to go back to during a retrograde, and Moon Moved House catches each sign change at your own time.
  • The Alibi. Something went wrong and you'd like it to be the sky's fault. One tap, and it tells you honestly what's retrograde, whether the Moon is void, and how often the sky looks like that anyway.
  • Decoy Day. Four short lines about today: one read from your chart, three from invented charts. Pick yours each day and find out over time whether your horoscope really describes you.
  • The Lunation Sheet and the Sky Life List. A moon phase journal with the timing done for you, and a field guide to ten things you can actually go outside and see, from Venus as the evening star onward.
  • Umbriel notices your patterns. After a few weeks of check-ins, it says back what repeats in your own days and your own words. There's a new “A big change” box for the moments that matter.
  • Famous charts answer a tap. On any famous person's page, tap a planet on the wheel and it tells you where it sits. The course's diagrams now read in German, Spanish and French too.

  • The town is a real place now. The neighbourhood built from your chart has the actual sky over it, tonight's weather and this month's season, with shadows, moving pictures on the wall, riders passing through, and somebody home every day. Every room says which house of the Atlas it is, and House XII on the Atlas walks you into the street.
  • Give your birthday once. Type it into any tool (Numerology, the Mayan day sign, the Chinese zodiac) and the others have it waiting, your birth chart too.
  • Somewhere to type your birthday on the page you landed on. Sixty-nine of the free calculator pages need your birth details, and every one of them now has the box right there on the page, with a line saying exactly what you will need before you start.
  • The Human Design Variables, in plain words. Thirty short passages, one for every arrow and every row, so tapping a line you have never seen before gives you an answer rather than another piece of jargon.
  • Old prints alongside every “why it means that” note. All twenty-two of them, each in its own shape, and the Moon's note keeps Hevelius's engraving of the month beside it.
  • The chart page prints like a real plate. A misprint, numbers that fall off the line, titles set sideways, slips pasted in crooked: the page behaves like something that came off a press rather than out of a template.

  • Your birth chart, as a town you can walk through. The neighbourhood is a small 3D town built from your chart: twelve buildings, one for each house, lit up where your planets are. It looks like an old sepia photograph now, and giant paper puppets of old constellation figures sway and leap down the street. Open it from Play, or from House XII on the Atlas.
  • Step inside every house. Each of the twelve buildings opens into a room about that part of life: a hall of mirrors for how people see you, a vault for money, a funfair for fun, a ballroom for partners, a dream room for the hidden. The sign on that house decorates it, and your planets there are the furniture.
  • Old engravings and star cards, all through the day. Tonight's Moon as the astronomer Johannes Hevelius engraved it in 1647. On your birthday, your own card from Urania's Mirror, a set of constellation cards from the 1820s. And Hevelius's brass instruments on My Arc. Tap a piece and it opens on its own page.
  • Famous people's charts, from the app's search. Type a name and their birth chart comes up. Every famous person's page can save that chart into your own library.
  • Choosing a day. A new tool that checks a date against the seven traditional rules astrologers use to pick a good day for something important. It needs no birth details.
  • My Arc counts the days you show up. My Arc, your personal page, counts each day you open Umbriel, on your phone and laptop together. It also holds your week, one day at a time.

  • Every chart tool opens now. Twenty-eight rooms used to show a locked door: the solar return, the composite, progressions, the lunar return, relocation and the rest. The chart itself is free in all of them now, with its wheel, its table and its dates. The written reading is what Membership holds.
  • Every asteroid, for everyone. The library of 26,418 named asteroids stopped being a member tool the same day.
  • Your Sun and your Moon, on one page. A hundred and forty four pages, one for each pair. Each says what the Sun is after, what the Moon needs, where the two rub, and one fact that comes from the pair itself: how far apart the two lights are fixes the Moon you were born under.
  • A birthday box on every famous person. On all 3,518 pages: give the day you were born and it says what you share with them, on the page, at once. Your birthday never goes into the address bar.
  • Your sky on your lock screen. An image made at your phone's own size, with the top left quiet for the clock, and what to tap next on an iPhone or on Android.
  • A page about being kind to tired eyes and busy brains. What Umbriel does for reading aloud, plain words, the easy-to-read typeface, four text sizes and motion that can be switched off. Every number on it is read out of the app's own settings, so it cannot drift.
  • Send a birthday straight into Umbriel. With Umbriel on your home screen it appears in Android's share sheet. Send a message with a date in it and the birth form opens with the date filled in, and says what it read.
  • Your spare key, in plain sight. Your account settings now say whether the server holds the spare key that gives your journal back after a password reset, and offer to make one if it does not.
  • The lesson drawings are engraved now. All fifty take the plate's own ink on every plate, and the four elements are told apart by the engraver's triangles instead of by colour.
  • Your record, read back to you. A new room: your entries laid along the slow planets that stood on your own placements while you wrote, your moods grouped by the Moon with the count beside every line, and your own theories tallied. A quiet season is a season, and nothing here counts a streak.
  • Why it means that. Three of the things people repeat get their astronomy, with your own number in it: what of yours is out of bounds and by how much, which planets were turning when you were born and at which degree, and where your node sits with the dates of your nodal returns.
  • Your Chiron from a birthday alone, with “or” said out loud on the days Chiron changed sign.
  • The lunar return as a monthly loop: your own clock, the Moon it matched, the next twelve, and the month's closest aspect.

  • Your week. Every Monday, the days that week when a planet is exactly on one of your placements, each with what it is about, the Moon day by day, and a gentle word when nothing big is happening. Members get the whole week, and a notification on Monday mornings; everyone with a chart sees their biggest day on Today.
  • A welcome for new members. When your membership arrives you are shown three things to try first, starting with Your week, and asked once whether your week can find you on Mondays.
  • The lessons, in French. Set Umbriel to Français and all seventy-three lessons, the glossary, the exam and the course around them come in French: the questions about your own chart, the In your chart notes and the labels on every drawing.
  • The lessons, in Spanish. Set Umbriel to Español and all seventy-three lessons, the glossary and the exam come in Spanish, and so does everything around them: the questions about your own chart, the In your chart notes and the labels on every drawing. If a lesson changes in English later, it shows in English and says so until its Spanish catches up.

  • The lessons, in German. Set Umbriel to Deutsch and all seventy-three lessons, the glossary and the exam come in German too. If a lesson is changed in English later, it shows in English, and says so, until its German catches up.
  • Six thousand asteroids, exact. The first six thousand main-belt asteroids now follow NASA’s own orbit, taken fresh for every four years, so on a chart from 1950 they sit within about a minute of arc of where they really were. Until now that was true of the first two thousand. Past number 6,214, a position can still be more than a degree out, and your file says so.
  • More of the lessons in German. With Deutsch on, the quiz about your own chart, the In your chart box and the labels inside the lesson drawings are in German too. And search now finds a lesson by its title, in English or in German.
  • The weather says when. Under the emotional weather, the line that names what is moving you now says when it will be exact, like exact 7:26 PM or exact Thursday, while it is still getting closer.
  • The full house. On Every calculator, one file, tick both boxes and Umbriel casts everything it knows for one person: every calculator, every persona chart, and two thousand asteroids, now within about a minute of arc of NASA. It opens with a front sheet of what it found and a dated list of the years ahead, lets you pick the house system, and checks its own work before it is written.
  • Your chart page, organized. Your birth chart page is organized now, in five parts: you in brief (your Sun, Moon and Rising, and where to start), your chart (the wheel and your dominants), what it means, explore further, and keep and share. Nothing was taken away; the deeper sections are folded until you tap them.
  • The Observatory, in one ink. The instruments in the Observatory, the lunar dial, the orrery, the Desk, Living Sky and the rest, are drawn in the app’s own night inks now: paper, a fine line and one red. The gold, teal and pink from an older design are gone, and the small Share buttons are easier to read on the dark.
  • Tool pages get to the point. When a tool has already read your saved chart, the top of the page is one line saying whose chart it is, with Change beside it, and the answer starts right under it. The Tropical or Sidereal choice is a single row, and its explanation appears when you switch.
  • Umbriel’s own marks. The colourful emoji are gone from the app. The Moon is drawn with its shadow hatched, the Chinese animals wear their own written characters, and every little picture beside a tool, a sound or a life event is drawn in the same ink as the page, so it follows the light and dark plates. The astrological glyphs stay as they are, and so does anything you type yourself.
  • It says why. The emotional weather now names what is moving you, like Saturn square your Moon, under its plain words. The day’s lucky and unlucky lists say which Moon they come from. And the free shadow report names Chiron and Saturn where it speaks of your tender place and your inner critic.
  • A calmer first visit. The first time you open Umbriel, the first screen now asks you one thing: to cast your chart. The settings and the little New here? pointer wait until your chart is kept, and then come one at a time.
  • Save any one section as a file. In Copy anything on this page, every section can now be saved as a file as well as copied, so a long section arrives whole. The unlabeled Send as a file buttons scattered down the chart page are gone.

  • Star parans, with the odds first. The speculum now lists which of the fifteen Behenian stars were on an angle with one of your planets as you were born, and says first how many of those meetings chance alone would give.
  • Raja and Dhana yogas. The Vedic page finds the classical yogas made by house lords: the Raja yogas, your yogakaraka, and wealth from the lords of the 2nd and 11th, with the verse each comes from, and it says when one is cancelled and why.

  • Every calculator, one file, for anyone you have saved. The button on the Charts page used to cast only the chart saved as you, whatever you changed. It has a Whose chart choice now. Pick someone and the whole file is theirs, and your own saved chart is left exactly as it was.

  • The zodiac and the house system live on the chart now. They are on the birth form, next to the birth details, and they change that chart rather than quietly switching every chart you ever cast. Twenty-six house systems and both zodiacs, on any chart.
  • The living sound has no birds in it. They have gone, and what is left is quieter and less busy.
  • The neighbourhood moves at a walking pace rather than a wade, about half again as fast.
  • There is a body behind the bodygraph. The figure the centres sit on is traced from an engraving now, drawn faint so the chart stays the thing you read, in the app and on the Human Design page, which describes a bodygraph in full and until now never showed you one.
  • Every calculator, one file. For members, one button on the Charts page casts every calculator from your birth details into a single file to keep or share. It says how long it will take, counts down while it runs, and can be stopped. It also lists by name anything it could not include, and what that was waiting for.
  • Five more screens can be copied now. Today's reading, your life area by area, this month in your sky, your Arc and the six schools all had something to say and no way to take it with you. Each one has a plain-text copy now, so it can go into your notes, a message, or anywhere else.

  • Your chart says what it knows about the angles. Your Ascendant, Descendant, Midheaven and IC are in the Planets & Points table now, where you would look for them, each one tappable for its reading. Anything out of bounds says out of bounds in words rather than three letters, with one line under the table explaining what it means.
  • One copy button instead of seven. Everything you could copy is still there, behind Copy anything on this page at the top, and a single section now pastes with your name and birth details on it, which it did not always do.

  • Signing in is where you expected it. Tap where it says Guest at the top of your account and you are there. It used to be the eleventh thing down that list. The password box will also tell you if Caps Lock is on, show you what you have typed, and ask you to confirm it when you make an account.
  • A spare key, so a forgotten password does not take your journal with it. Your writing is still encrypted before it leaves your browser. Signing in hands a spare key to the server, kept apart from what you wrote, so a password reset can give it back. Your account settings say whether yours is there.
  • You can send a page now. Any chart page you have worked out has Send this page at the top. The link opens that same page for whoever you send it to, nothing for them to type, no account. Two-person pages too, which is the one that started this. It tells you first whose birth details travel inside the link.
  • Show me around. A walk through the whole app, room by room, at your own pace. Nothing in it is timed, it remembers where you got to, and it lives in the Guide for good. New here? There is a pointer at the eclipse to start you off.
  • The search speaks human now. Ask it why am I like this, who am I or horoscope and it will take you somewhere useful. It used to want the astrology word for the thing, which is no good if you do not know the word yet.
