MODERNA modern technique: twentieth-century astrology.

What a Juno sign is

Juno is the third asteroid ever found, discovered by Karl Harding at Lilienthal on 1 September 1804, and named for the Roman goddess of marriage. Your Juno sign is where it stood at your birth. Modern astrologers read it for committed partnership: what you need a partner to be, what you will not do without in a long relationship, and how you behave inside one. It is not a forecast of who you will marry.

Deeper.a one-breath read

Asteroids came into astrology late. Eleanor Bach published the first ephemeris of the four large ones in 1973, and Demetra George's Asteroid Goddesses (1986) gave Juno the reading most astrologers use today. That makes it a modern technique, and it is labelled as one here.

Juno takes about four and a third years to go round the Sun, but its orbit is tilted and stretched, so its pace through the signs is uneven: it can cross a sign in a couple of months or stay in one for half a year or more. Like every planet it turns retrograde from time to time, for about three months at a stretch.

How Umbriel computes it

Deeper.a one-breath read

Umbriel computes Juno's position from its orbital elements, corrected for the pull of Jupiter and Saturn, for the moment of your birth, and converts it to a longitude seen from Earth. That is accurate to within about a degree, which is more than enough for the sign almost always; when Juno is within a degree of a sign edge, Umbriel says so and names both signs rather than pretending to a precision it does not have. The house needs your birth time and place; without a time, Umbriel gives the sign and leaves the house out. Juno moves slowly enough that the date alone nearly always settles the sign.

Don’t know your birth time?

Deeper.a cup-of-tea read

Know it roughly? Give the time and say where it came from (a certificate, a parent’s memory, or something rough like “early morning”), and your chart tells you what could change within that window.

Don’t know it at all? Umbriel does not fill the gap with a guess. Tick “I don’t know the time at all” and it checks your whole birthday, hour by hour, then tells you two things: which placements are the same whatever time you were born, as exact as they would be if you knew the minute, and which are down to two signs, both named, so you know what a parent’s memory would settle.

The Ascendant, the Midheaven and the houses are left out rather than approximated. A birth time is the one thing they cannot be computed without, and an approximate Rising sign that looks exact is worse than no Rising sign at all.

Common questions

What does my Juno sign mean?

Modern astrology reads Juno for committed partnership: what you need from a long-term partner and how you behave inside a commitment. A Juno in Gemini is often read as needing conversation, a Juno in Capricorn as needing reliability. Best held as a question to think with, not a description of a future spouse.

Does Juno show who I will marry?

No. It is read for what you need and offer in a committed relationship, not for a person's sign or appearance. Some people find a partner's Sun or Moon in their Juno sign, and some do not; nothing here predicts a marriage.

Juno sign vs Venus sign: what is the difference?

Venus is read for attraction, pleasure and what you love; Juno for commitment and what you need to stay. Many charts have them in different signs, which is often read as the difference between who you fall for and who you build a life with.

Can I find my Juno sign without a birth time?

Almost always, yes. Juno moves less than half a degree a day, so the date settles the sign unless Juno was right on a sign edge that day. What you cannot get without a time is the house, and Umbriel leaves it out rather than guessing.

How accurate is Juno here?

To within about a degree. Umbriel computes Juno from its orbit with the pull of Jupiter and Saturn included, which is enough for the sign except within a degree of an edge, and there Umbriel names both signs.

Is this Juno sign calculator free?

Yes: sign, degree, house and retrograde status, with no account and no email, calculated in your own browser.

What if I don’t know my birth time?

Umbriel checks your whole birthday hour by hour and separates what is certain from what is not. Placements that are the same whatever time you were born are shown as exact. Placements that changed sign during the day are shown as two named signs, so you know what a parent's memory would settle. The Ascendant, Midheaven and houses are left out rather than approximated. They cannot be computed without a time, and an approximate Rising sign that looks exact is worse than none.

Do I need an account or an email address?

No. There is no sign-up, no email capture and no free trial. Enter your details and the result is drawn in your own browser.
