Umbriel is built for brains that wander, eyes that tire and days that are a lot. Lessons and readings can be read aloud to you at up to 3×. The long, personal writing can be rewritten in short, plain words. There's a typeface shaped so letters are hard to mix up, and one switch that stops everything moving.

Listen instead of reading

Tap Listen on every lesson, your portrait, the daily sign reading, the Life Readings, Understanding someone and the Story Weaver, and your browser reads it to you with its own built-in speech, so there is nothing to install. Pause it, stop it, pick it up again.

Pick a speed: 0.75×, 1×, 1.5×, 2×, 2.5× or 3×. Umbriel remembers it, so the next reading starts at your pace. It reads in the app's language, with the voices your phone or computer already has.

Plain words, when you want them

Set Reading ease to Plain & simple in Settings → Comfort & Accessibility. The long, personal readings are then written in short words and short sentences. Safety notes and instructions are kept simple either way.

Reading depth is a separate dial: Plain keeps the big picture, Pro shows every orb and dignity. Use one, both, or neither.

Letters that stay put

Switch Typeface to Legible and the app is set in Atkinson Hyperlegible, a typeface drawn so similar letters look different: capital I, small l and the number 1 each have their own shape, and so do O and 0. It was designed for readers with low vision.

Text size has 4 steps, the largest 1.6 times the standard. Choosing Plain & simple on the first-run plate switches the typeface on for you as well.

Motion you control

Motion in Settings → Comfort & Accessibility can be Still (nothing moves) or soft, slow animation. The first-run plate also offers off, which stops the transitions between screens too.

If your phone or computer is set to reduce motion, Umbriel follows it on your first visit, before you have chosen anything. After that, your own choice in Settings is the one it keeps.

Less on the screen

Visual intensity goes down to Minimal, which takes away the living sky and the stars behind the page. Focus mode tucks away the footer and the starfield and dims the menu, so the page is mostly the thing you came to read.

For the strongest contrast there's the Noir theme, high-contrast black & white.

On the first-run plate, one tap turns sound and haptics off together. Notifications have one button, Turn off all notifications, that stops every reminder at once.
