Question 1

Is Umbriel free?

Accepted Answer

Your whole birth chart is always free. Read it, explore, and start learning at no cost, no account required. A membership opens the rest of the sky: the written reading in every chart room, the in-depth readings, the full shadow work and more. Membership is what keeps Umbriel going and open to everyone, in every country, with no ads.

Question 2

Who is Umbriel for?

Accepted Answer

Everyone from complete beginners who don't know where to start, to people who just want to understand themselves and others, to serious students learning toward certification, to working astrologers who want a professional workspace and a way to earn from their craft.

Question 3

How accurate are the birth charts?

Accepted Answer

Every position is computed in your browser and checked against NASA/JPL Horizons: the Sun within 1 arcsecond from 1650 to 2050, the chart angles within 0.5 arcminutes, the Moon around 6 arcminutes, and the planets within 0.2 degrees. Umbriel also publishes what it is least accurate at, which is near-Earth asteroids. And if you do not know your birth time it will not guess, the Ascendant, Midheaven and houses are left out rather than approximated, and Umbriel checks your whole birthday hour by hour to tell you which placements are certain whatever time you were born and which are down to two signs. The full method is at /accuracy/.

Question 4

Do I need an account, and can I stay anonymous?

Accepted Answer

No account is needed to start. If you want your progress, charts and University path saved so nothing you build gets lost, you can create a free account, and even then you never have to share your real name. You can stay completely anonymous.

Question 5

What can I do with Umbriel?

Accepted Answer

Meet it wherever you are: understand yourself and the people you love in plain words, learn astrology step by step to certification, work with clients in a professional space, and join a community. It also remembers. Keep a journal stamped with each day's sky and see 'a year ago today' memories, so you can track your life and its patterns over time.
