House overlays in synastry
MODERNA modern technique: twentieth-century astrology.
A house overlay is where one person’s planets fall in the other person’s chart. It is the half of synastry that says which part of a life somebody walks into, and it is the half most people find they recognise immediately.
It is also directional, and that is the thing most often lost. Their Mars in your 7th house is not the same reading as your Mars in their 7th, so both are computed and both are written up separately here. There is a page for each of the twelve houses.
Reading order matters too. A contact lands on a chart that already had something in it, so the honest sequence is your chart, then theirs, then what happens between them. The same Saturn contact is a different experience for somebody whose own Saturn is already busy.
The twelve houses
- 1st house synastrySelf and first impressions. When someone's planets land in your 1st house, they land on the way you come across: your face, your walk, the half second before you have said anything.
- 2nd house synastryMoney, worth and what is yours. Somebody's planets in your 2nd house land on what you own, what you earn, and quietly, on what you think you are worth.
- 3rd house synastryTalk, thinking and the daily back and forth. Planets in your 3rd house land on the conversation: how this person talks to you, how often, and what your mind does with it.
- 4th house synastryHome, family and the private self. Planets in your 4th house land at the bottom of the chart: your home, your family, and the part of you that only comes out with the door shut.
- 5th house synastryRomance, play and what you make. Planets in your 5th house land on the part of life that is for enjoyment: flirting, romance, play, creativity and children.
- 6th house synastryDaily life, work and looking after things. Planets in your 6th house land on ordinary life: your working day, your health, your habits and the small acts of looking after each other.
- 7th house synastryPartnership and the one you face. Planets in your 7th house land on the house of partnership itself: the person you sit down opposite, and what you are looking for when you look for somebody.
- 8th house synastryMerging, depth and what changes you. The 8th house overlay is the one with the reputation: sex, merging, shared money, and the things two people cannot stay unchanged by.
- 9th house synastryMeaning, belief and the wider world. Planets in your 9th house land on what you believe, where you travel and what you think life is for.
- 10th house synastryReputation, work and the public self. Planets in your 10th house land at the top of the chart: your career, your standing, and what you are known for when you are not in the room.
- 11th house synastryFriendship, groups and the future. Planets in your 11th house land on your friendships, your wider circle, and the future you are quietly walking toward.
- 12th house synastryThe unconscious, the hidden and what dissolves. The 12th house overlay is the other one with a reputation: the unconscious, the private, the dissolving, and the part of a relationship neither person can see clearly from inside.
Both directions, the contacts and their orbs, the bi-wheel, and your two natal moon phases side by side. No account, no email, in your browser.

Twin flame astrology
The same machinery answers the question people actually arrive with, and it answers it honestly rather than with a yes. There is no accepted astrological threshold where one category becomes another, and no chart can establish that two people are twin flames. What two charts can show is the shape of a connection, which is a different and more checkable question.
