What it actually is
The four major asteroids — Ceres, Pallas, Juno and Vesta — were the first found, and are the ones most astrologers use. They sit in the gap between Mars and Jupiter and are read as a set of themes the classical planets do not cover well: nurture and loss, strategy and pattern, commitment and contract, devotion and what you keep for yourself.
Beyond the four there are tens of thousands, and the practice of using them is genuinely divisive. Some astrologers find a named asteroid on an angle uncannily specific; others regard the whole business as pattern-matching against a list long enough to guarantee a hit. Umbriel takes no position and simply computes what you ask for.
⚠️ There is a real caution here, and it is worth stating. With 26,418 named asteroids, something will always be sitting on one of your angles. That is arithmetic, not meaning. A hit becomes interesting when you looked for a specific body in advance, not when you searched a list of thousands for anything that landed.
