◍ Free Astrocartography Map: Your Chart, Drawn on the World

Umbriel draws your astrocartography map free.

Your chart is cast for one place. But the same moment, viewed from a different point on Earth, puts different planets on the horizon and the meridian. Astrocartography maps that: for each planet, four lines mark where it was rising (AC), setting (DC), at the top of the sky (MC) or the bottom (IC).

Each combination has a traditional reading. A Sun MC line is associated with visibility and recognition; a Venus AC line with ease and being met warmly; a Saturn line with weight and hard work. Living on or near a line is said to turn that planet's volume up.

This is where accurate birth time matters most of any tool on this list. The whole technique depends on the angles, and the angles move a degree every four minutes. A guessed time produces a map that's confidently wrong.

Take the interpretations lightly. Plenty of people have moved somewhere because a line looked good and found ordinary life waiting. A more useful way to hold it: notice which places you've already loved or struggled in, and see whether the map has anything to say about them. Evidence first, then the symbolism.

This tool draws where on Earth each of ten bodies, the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, would stand on one of the four angles of your chart. For each body Umbriel takes its position from your birth chart, converts it from ecliptic to equatorial coordinates (right ascension and declination), and subtracts the Greenwich sidereal time of your birth moment. That gives the longitude of its Midheaven line, where it culminated, and of the Imum Coeli line 180 degrees opposite, both straight north-south lines. The Ascendant and Descendant lines are curves: at every second degree of latitude from 72 south to 72 north Umbriel solves for the longitude where the body is on the eastern or western horizon, and where the body never rises or never sets at a latitude that point is left out. If your chart is set to the sidereal zodiac the ayanamsa is added back first, because the construction is tropical and equatorial. The city check measures how far a place is from a line east or west along that city's own parallel, using 111.32 km per degree of longitude at the equator shrinking with the cosine of latitude, and it is not the great-circle distance to the line. Your birth place does not enter the lines at all; your birth date and time do, and every line shifts by about 15 degrees of longitude for each hour of error in the time, so a chart cast for noon because the time is unknown gives a map that Umbriel warns may be far out. The map is drawn as a schematic with reference cities, not to survey accuracy. What each line means is traditional symbolism laid on real geometry: the positions are computed, the readings are not measurements.
