What it actually is
Every other chart answers where in the zodiac. A Local Space chart answers which way. Each body is converted onto the horizon as seen from your birthplace, so it comes out as a bearing in degrees and a named direction you could actually walk along.
It is used the way astrocartography is used, but locally rather than globally — people orient a room, choose a direction to travel, or notice which way their Venus or their Saturn actually lies from where they were born.
⚠️ Umbriel names its azimuth convention out loud, because the other one points the opposite way. Astronomers commonly measure azimuth from south going west; compasses measure from north going east. A Local Space chart on the wrong convention sends the reader 180° wrong and looks completely normal doing it. Umbriel uses the compass convention.
⚠️ It also reports the one case where the house and the horizon genuinely disagree, rather than hiding it. A house is read from a body's longitude, which places it on the ecliptic — but the body is not on the ecliptic. Pluto can sit sixteen degrees off it, and at a high enough latitude that is enough to put the real body above the horizon while its longitude falls in a below-horizon house. Both are true. A reader who noticed that unaided would reasonably conclude the software was broken, so the row is flagged and explained.

How Umbriel computes it
Every body is converted from its zodiacal longitude onto your birthplace's own horizon, using the chart's right ascension of the Midheaven, your latitude and the obliquity of the ecliptic, so each one comes out as a compass bearing and an altitude rather than a sign and a degree. ⚠️ The convention is stated on the page because the other one points the opposite way: astronomers commonly measure azimuth from south going west, compasses measure from north going east, and a Local Space chart on the wrong convention sends you 180° wrong while looking entirely normal.
