Two Life Paths can be the same number, naturally supportive, one-directional, or simply different tempos — and each of those is a different relationship, not a better or worse score.

Umbriel also blends the two into the number the relationship carries, which is often the more useful reading: it describes the thing the two of you make together rather than either person on their own.

⚠️ Master numbers 11, 22 and 33 are preserved rather than reduced away. Flattening an 11 into a 2 is the commonest shortcut in numerology software, and it quietly removes the most distinctive thing in the chart.

It needs only the two birth dates — no birth time, no place — which is why it is the compatibility reading that still works when one of you has no idea what time you were born.

Numbers describe tempo and emphasis — how quickly each of you moves, what each of you reaches for first — and two people with awkward-looking numbers who understand the difference tend to do better than two people with flattering ones who assume they will never have to translate. Each person's core numbers are reduced from their birth date in the Pythagorean manner, master numbers 11, 22 and 33 preserved rather than flattened, and the pair is then read three ways: the two Life Paths against each other, the blended number the relationship itself carries, and whether the two Comfort Zone cards match. It needs the dates alone — no birth time, no place — which is why it works when half a couple has no idea what time they were born. The reduction is done digit by digit rather than on the whole number at once, which matters: adding a date's digits and then reducing gives a different answer from reducing each component first, and the two conventions disagree often enough that a couple can be handed two different Life Paths by two different sites.
