What it actually is
Firdaria is a Persian time-lord technique that divides life into periods ruled by each of the seven traditional planets plus the two lunar nodes. Each major period has a fixed length — the Sun ten years, Venus eight, Mercury thirteen, and so on — and subdivides into minor periods ruled in turn by the others.
⚠️ The order depends entirely on whether you were born by day or by night, and it is not a small variation. A day birth begins with the Sun; a night birth begins with the Moon, and the whole sequence follows a different order from there. Getting this wrong does not produce a slightly-off reading — it hands your entire life to the wrong planets.
Day or night is decided by whether the Sun was above or below the horizon at your birth, not by the clock, which is why an accurate birth time and place matter here.
The technique is straightforward once the sect is right, and that is part of its appeal: it is a calendar rather than a calculation, and it can be checked against a life without much interpretation getting in the way.
How Umbriel computes it
Sect comes from the Sun's position relative to the horizon, and it selects the entire period order — the diurnal sequence beginning with the Sun, the nocturnal one with the Moon. The major periods use the traditional planetary years, and each is divided into minors in the same order, proportionally rather than in equal parts. Dates are computed from your exact birth moment, so the sequence lines up with your life rather than with your birth year.
What's in your result
- Your full sequenceEvery major period from birth, in the correct day or night order.
- Minor periodsEach major period subdivided, with its own ruler and dates.
- Which one you are in nowThe current major and minor lord, with the dates either side.
- Day or night, statedSince the entire sequence depends on it.
- The rulers in your natal chartWhere each period's planet actually sits, which is what makes the period readable.
Common questions
What is firdaria?
A Persian time-lord system dividing life into periods ruled by the seven traditional planets and the lunar nodes, each with a fixed length and each subdivided into minor periods.
Why does day or night birth matter for firdaria?
Because it sets the entire order. A day birth starts with the Sun, a night birth with the Moon, and the sequences diverge from there — so the wrong sect gives you the wrong planet for every year of your life.
How is day or night decided?
By whether the Sun was above or below the horizon, not by the clock time. Umbriel works it out from your chart.
How long is each firdaria period?
They differ by planet — the Sun rules ten years, Venus eight, Mercury thirteen, the Moon nine, and so on, with shorter periods for the nodes. The full cycle runs seventy-five years.
How is firdaria different from a dasha?
They are the same kind of idea from different traditions — fixed planetary periods running in a set order. The Persian firdaria runs seventy-five years over nine rulers; the Vedic Vimshottari dasha runs a hundred and twenty. Umbriel computes both.
Is the firdaria calculator free?
Yes — the full sequence, major and minor, with no account.
