What it actually is
Six calculators give you six unrelated answers about a relationship. This asks the question they cannot answer alone: what do they agree about?
Eleven readings run for both people and are compared system by system — the Sun, the Moon, the chart signature and the house emphasis from the astrology, then the Life Path, the Human Design type and channel count, each Sun's Gene Key, the Matrix arcanum, the Chinese animal and element, the Mayan day-sign and the Celtic tree.
⚠️ The output is a count of agreement between independent traditions, not a compatibility percentage. Umbriel does not score relationships, and the difference is not pedantry: a percentage invites you to pass or fail a person, and a count of agreement invites you to look at what keeps coming up.
⚠️ And the honest limit is printed with the result. These traditions were built by people who read one another and they share ancestry, so some of the agreement is inheritance rather than independent confirmation. Worth noticing; not evidence.
It is also the fastest way to find the disagreements, which tend to be the more useful half. When Human Design reads a pair as easy companionship and the astrology reads the same pair as friction, that is not a contradiction to be resolved — it is two descriptions of a real relationship that most couples would recognise instantly.
How Umbriel computes it

The output is a count of agreement across independent systems, not a percentage of compatibility. Each system contributes into a shared vocabulary of themes rather than a number, so what is being counted is how many separate traditions pointed at the same idea — four or more reads as loud, two or three as quietly seconded, one as unique to that tradition. Disagreements are kept and shown rather than averaged away, since two systems arguing about a pair is more informative than either of them alone.
