⧉ Do tarot, astrology and the Enneagram agree? One small question at a time

Every symbolic system claims to describe the same human material in its own vocabulary. If that is true, a tarot card should sit nearer to one zodiac sign than another. Umbriel's free Which is closer? asks you, one small question at a time: here is a card, which of these two signs is closer to it? It measures how consistent your answers are against the 50% of chance, and, once enough people have answered, shows how everyone else chose.

Tarot, astrology and the Enneagram are often laid over each other in tables: this card goes with that sign, this sign with that type. The tables disagree with each other. Which is closer? asks the question directly, of people rather than of books.

Each question shows one item from one system, say The Hermit, and two from another, say Virgo and Leo, and asks which is closer. You tap one, or "No idea: skip this one", which is always offered and always a fair answer. The items come from the 22 Major Arcana, the 12 signs and the 9 Enneagram types.

It checks itself. Every fifth question is an earlier one again, with the two sides swapped. If your choices mean something to you, you will mostly agree with yourself; if they are coin flips, you will agree about half the time. The page shows both numbers, how often you picked the left one and how often you agreed with yourself, each read against the 50% chance would give.

After you answer, it shows how other people chose on that same question, but only once at least five people have answered it, so a single stranger's pick never passes for a consensus. Your answers join the pool only if you are signed in.

The questions are sampled, never written by a model, and fixed by a seed, so question twelve is the same question for everyone. That is what lets answers be pooled at all.

What it cannot show is written on the page too: one person's answers cannot reveal a structure shared across systems. That takes many people's answers, set side by side. Yours are a contribution, and a mirror of your own sense of the symbols.

The share of other people choosing each option is shown only when at least five people have answered that exact question. Your answers are kept in your own settings, and are sent to the shared pool only when you are signed in.
