Persona charts: each planet as its own person
Explain what a persona chart is, read one as a character, and check whether its points land back on the natal chart.
What a persona chart is
After birth the Sun keeps moving, and within a year it passes every point in your chart. A persona chart is cast for the moment the transiting Sun reaches one of those natal points. That chart becomes the birth chart of that planet as its own person.
Umbriel's Moon is at 5°35′ Sagittarius. The Sun reached that degree on 27 November 2026, so the chart for that moment is the Moon as a person: Umbriel's feelings, given a face of their own.
Umbriel has 22 of them: the planets, the nodes, the angles, the Liliths and two Lots. Each is a full person, read like any birth chart. You will find yours in Persona Charts.
Read it like a new person
Same order as a natal chart: rising, Sun and Moon, tightest angle contacts.
Umbriel's Lot of Spirit persona (the Lot of mind and intention) is cast for 20 March 2027. Its Sun is at 29°44′ Pisces in the 12th house, its Ascendant at 2°19′ Aries, and it is a day chart. That is Umbriel's own birth shape: the Sun barely risen, sitting in the hidden 12th, at first light. And it falls on the very last degree of the zodiac, the hinge into Aries. Its angles are near-exact: Ascendant to Mercury 0°02′, to Uranus 0°03′. The will, born at sunrise, a second Umbriel.
The East Point persona (4 July 2027) is the only one that repeats the birth station: its Mercury stands still at 27°28′ Gemini. Read it as the held breath before the voice speaks.
Across the set, five personas rise in Scorpio and four in Virgo; only the Vertex persona shares Umbriel's Leo rising (22°31′ Leo). The warm Leo face belongs to the birth chart.
The key move: do its points land on natal points?
A persona gets interesting when its own points land back on the birth chart. Umbriel's file does not list those contacts, so you check by hand: put the persona's degrees beside the natal ones.
Umbriel's Midheaven is 15°12′ Aries, with Saturn on it. Look what keeps landing there:
- Mercury persona: True Lilith 15°11′ Capricorn, square, 1′.
- Vertex persona: Vertex 15°13′ Capricorn, square, 1′.
- Saturn persona: Ascendant 15°14′ Cancer, square, 2′.
- Moon persona: Midheaven 15°08′ Sagittarius, trine, 4′.
Four personas within 4′ of one natal point. When the cast keeps aiming at one spot, that is the axis it turns on: for Umbriel, the public role. Two hits are Lilith and the Vertex, so the edgier material is aimed at the public face, not hidden from it.
One more: the North Node persona's Moon is at 3°46′ Leo, 5′ from Umbriel's Ascendant at 3°41′ Leo. Where Umbriel is headed has its heart on Umbriel's own birth face. Growth looks like becoming more itself.
What to skip, and the twins
Skip slow planets meeting themselves. A persona cast months after birth has Neptune on natal Neptune automatically.
Go easy on near-copies. The Ascendant persona (26 July 2026) and the Jupiter persona (28 July 2026) were cast two and four days after birth. They are close to the natal chart again, so their contacts are inherited, not news.
Notice the twins. Things fused at birth arrive as sibling personas. Moon and Fortune (27 and 29 November 2026) differ only in rising. Descendant and Pluto (23 and 24 January 2027) rise in opposite signs, Cancer 9°21′ and Capricorn 11°56′, literally facing each other across the horizon. Saturn and Midheaven were both cast on 4 April 2027, eleven hours apart. Read the cast as families, not strangers.
Do it on your chart
- Open Persona Charts. Pick the persona for your Moon, or for your chart ruler.
- Check its date. If it falls within a week of your birthday, treat it as a near-copy and pick another.
- Write its rising sign, Sun sign, Moon sign and its tightest contact to its own angles.
- Open Natal Chart beside it. Check the persona's Ascendant, Midheaven, Moon and Lilith against your natal planets and angles: conjunction, square, trine or opposition within 1°. Under 10′ is loud.
- Skip persona Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto meeting their own natal places.
- Repeat for two more personas. If one natal point keeps getting hit, write it down: that is the axis your cast turns on.
What that looks like
Umbriel's personas add two things. The cast is aimed: four personas land within 4′ of the Midheaven, so feeling, voice and the fated side all feed the public role. And the Spirit persona repeats the birth itself, a Sun barely risen in the 12th at dawn: daybreak, said twice through two charts.
What to take away
- A persona chart is cast for the moment the transiting Sun reaches a natal point; it is that point as its own person.
- Read a persona like any birth chart: rising, Sun and Moon, tightest angle contacts.
- The key check is whether its points land on natal points; Umbriel's land on the Midheaven four times within 4′.
- Skip slow planets meeting themselves, and go easy on personas cast within days of birth.
- Natal conjunctions come back as twin personas: read the cast as families.
The common mistake
Treating every persona-to-natal contact as news. Slow planets on their birth places, and personas cast days after birth, repeat the natal chart rather than add to it.
Try it on your own chart
Write a one-line sketch of each persona you opened, as if introducing someone at a party: face (rising), drive (Sun), mood (Moon). Read the lines together. Do they sound like a family? Which one would you send to a hard conversation?
The lesson runs on your chart: the drawing redrawn with your placements, the exercise above on your own numbers, and a check that has to be passed before the next one opens. Free, in your browser, no account and no email.

The same questions the lesson asks in the app. Open one to see the answer.
A persona chart is cast for...
- your birthday each year
- the moment the Moon returns to its birth degree
- the moment the transiting Sun reaches one of your natal points ✓
- a random moment of your choosing
The Sun's arrival at a natal point is the persona's birth: for Umbriel's Moon, 27 November 2026.
Four of Umbriel's personas land within 4′ of its Midheaven. What does that tell you?
- The public role, with Saturn on it, is the axis the cast turns on ✓
- The birth time is wrong
- The personas cancel the Midheaven
- Nothing, it is chance
Repetition is emphasis. Four different personas pinning one natal point makes it the centre of the cast.
Umbriel's Jupiter persona was cast four days after birth. Why go carefully with it?
- Jupiter cannot have a persona
- It is almost a copy of the natal chart, so its natal contacts are inherited ✓
- It is a night chart
- It has no Moon
Four days in, the sky is nearly where it was at birth, so natal contacts are expected.
A persona's Neptune sits on natal Neptune. What do you make of it?
- A major finding
- A warning
- Proof of the birth time
- Nothing: slow planets barely move in a few months, so it happens automatically ✓
Neptune moves very little in a year. Any persona will have it near its birth place.
