A connection chart is for two people. When three to five are in a room, Human Design says a different form appears — the Penta — and it runs on five centres only: the Throat, G, Sacral, Spleen and Heart.

Umbriel derives the seventeen Penta channels from those five centres rather than reproducing a remembered list: a channel belongs to the Penta when both of its gates sit in one of the five. That is checkable arithmetic, and it is why the number is 17 of the 36 rather than a figure you have to take on trust.

The reading most people find useful is the absences, and they fall out of the same definition. A Penta has no Head or Ajna, so a group has no mind of its own — the people in it think; the group only acts. No Solar Plexus, so it has no emotional wave, only whoever in it is having feelings today. No Root, so shared deadline pressure is usually one person's Root doing the pressing.

It also names what is held by one person — a channel that exists in the group only because a particular member is in the room. Not a warning, a fact worth knowing before somebody goes on holiday.

⚠️ Six people is not a bigger Penta. Above five the form changes into something else, so Umbriel refuses a sixth in words rather than quietly reading five of them.

The Penta's channel set is derived rather than stored: a channel qualifies when both of its gates sit in one of the five Penta centres — Throat, G, Sacral, Spleen and Heart — which yields 17 of the 36. That derivation is the load-bearing choice here. A hand-typed list of seventeen gate pairs would be impossible for a reader to check and is precisely how this project once shipped a complete, internally consistent and entirely fictional divisional chart; computing it from the same gate-to-centre map the bodygraph itself uses means the page cannot disagree with the charts it is built from. Every member's full bodygraph is computed, both sides, and the group's gates are pooled. A channel is present when somebody holds one end and somebody holds the other — which may be the same person or two different people, and both are reported, because a channel one member carries alone is the group's dependency rather than its shared property. The three absent centres are not asserted as doctrine; they follow from the definition, since Head, Ajna, Solar Plexus and Root simply are not among the five. The group is capped at five and a sixth is refused in words rather than silently trimmed, because above five the form is no longer a Penta and returning a confident answer for the wrong shape is worse than returning none.
