What the semisextile means

An aspect is the angle between two planets: how they talk to each other. At 30°, the semisextile is the aspect of the low, steady contact between neighbouring signs. In a chart it's associated with adjacency, a small nudge, quiet development.

We call this one Nudge, after what the angle does rather than how it is supposed to feel. Elsewhere you will see the semisextile called a “minor” aspect. Same geometry. Both words are worth having, and we would rather hand you the mechanism first and let you decide how it feels.

Why semisextiles work like that

Thirty degrees is the sign next door, and neighbouring signs share nothing either: different element, different mode, opposite polarity. It has the quincunx's problem in miniature.

What makes it different is proximity. The two are adjacent rather than across the room, so it reads as a nudge rather than a negotiation.

How close does it have to be?

About 2 degrees, the smallest allowance of anything on this list. Below that it is simply not there.

Is it a good aspect or a bad one?

Minor, and genuinely so. Worth reading last, after everything else has been read, and worth not building anything on.

How common is it?

Two places on the circle. Common, and easy to miss, which is most of why you have not met it.
