The square's mechanism at lower volume. A small pressure that keeps returning, not one that announces itself.

What the semisquare means
An aspect is the angle between two planets: how they talk to each other. At 45°, the semisquare is the aspect of small pressures that accumulate. In a chart it's associated with low pressure, recurrence, a prod.
We call this one Activation, after what the angle does rather than how it is supposed to feel. Elsewhere you will see the semisquare called a “minor challenging” aspect. Same geometry. Both words are worth having, and we would rather hand you the mechanism first and let you decide how it feels.
Why semisquares work like that
Forty-five degrees is half a square, and it does a smaller version of the same job: it activates, and it comes back.
It falls at no sign relationship at all, because 45 degrees is a sign and a half. Whatever it is doing, it is not doing it through element or mode.
How close does it have to be?
About 2 degrees. The hard minors have to be tight before they mean anything.
Is it a good aspect or a bad one?
Counted with the difficult aspects, and it behaves like a small square: friction that keeps returning rather than damage that stays.
How common is it?
Two places on the circle. Most charts carry one or two, and they are easy to read past.
