Pressure that builds and looks for an outlet: the same recurrence as a square, arriving from a further, odder angle.

What the sesquiquadrate means
An aspect is the angle between two planets: how they talk to each other. At 135°, the sesquiquadrate is the aspect of internal pressure that wants somewhere to go. In a chart it's associated with build-up, recurrence, looking for an outlet.
We call this one Activation, after what the angle does rather than how it is supposed to feel. Elsewhere you will see the sesquiquadrate called a “minor challenging” aspect. Same geometry. Both words are worth having, and we would rather hand you the mechanism first and let you decide how it feels.
Why sesquiquadrates work like that
A hundred and thirty-five degrees is a square plus a semisquare, and it belongs to the same family: the eighth-divisions of the circle rather than the twelfths.
Which is why it maps onto no sign relationship. The 45-degree series and the 30-degree series are two different ways of cutting one circle, and only one of them makes signs.
How close does it have to be?
About 2 degrees.
Is it a good aspect or a bad one?
Counted with the hard aspects and rarely decisive alone. It is a corroborating detail: worth noticing when it repeats a theme the major aspects have already named, and worth leaving alone when it does not.
How common is it?
Two places on the circle, as common as the semisquare. It also has the least-used name in astrology, which is most of the reason you have not met it.
