What the 11th house is about
The 11th house is everybody who is not obliged to be there. Friends, colleagues who became friends, the group, the cause, the loose network that turns out to be how most things actually happen.
It is also the house of what you are aiming at, which sounds like a strange pairing until you notice they are the same thing: the future you want is usually the one your people are also walking toward.
It sits opposite the 5th, and the pair is exact. The 5th is what you make yourself. The 11th is what a group makes, and what it feels like to be one of several rather than the one.
An empty 11th house is not an empty life
An empty 11th says nothing about how many friends you have. It is one of the emptier houses in most charts.
The cusp and its ruler carry it. An 11th ruled by a Moon in the 4th keeps a small number of people very close and calls that a network, which it is.
The sign on the cusp does the colouring
The sign on your 11th cusp describes what you are like in a group: whether you organise it, hold the edge of it, or need it to have a point before you will turn up.
It also colours what you hope for, which is worth reading honestly, because the hope is often the part of a chart people have never said out loud.
Where the 11th house actually is in the sky
The 11th house is high in the eastern sky, climbing: a planet here rose some hours before you were born and had not yet reached its highest point.
It is the mirror of the 9th on the other side of the meridian. The two of them are the highest positions in the chart, and both were rated well long before anyone had a reason for it beyond being able to see them clearly.
The house systems disagree, and here is how much
Another argued cusp, and the argument here is quiet but changes readings. In Placidus the 11th is frequently narrow and the 12th wide, or the reverse, depending on latitude.
A planet that one system puts among your friends and another puts in the house of solitude is describing quite a different person. When two readings disagree about that, look at which system each was using before deciding either was wrong.
