The 2nd house is what you own and what you're worth: money, possessions, and the values you won't trade away. It's how you build security and self-esteem.

The 2nd house at a glance

What the 2nd house is about

The 2nd house is what is yours: what you earn, what you own, and what you would not trade for any of it.

The money half is the visible half and the smaller one. Underneath it the 2nd is about worth, and specifically about the things you treat as non-negotiable when you work out what a day, a job or a person is actually worth to you.

It is also the house of resources in the plainest sense. What you have available to spend, including the parts of you that are not money.

An empty 2nd house is not an empty life

An empty 2nd house does not mean you will not have money. It is one of the commonest houses to find unoccupied, and most people with a comfortable bank balance have nothing at all standing in it.

The reading moves to the sign on the cusp and to that sign's ruler. A 2nd house ruled by a Saturn in the 6th earns steadily through work and is careful with what it earns; the house being empty changed none of that.

The sign on the cusp does the colouring

The sign on your 2nd cusp describes your relationship with having. Not how much, which no chart knows: the manner of it. Whether you hold on, spend freely, or measure everything against what it cost.

It is worth reading beside your Venus, which is what you want, and beside the 8th house, which is what you share.

Where the 2nd house actually is in the sky

The 2nd house is the part of the sky just below the eastern horizon: the region that had not yet risen when you were born, and would come up over the next couple of hours.

This is the geometry the old writers were reasoning from. The 1st is what has arrived, the 2nd is what is still coming up behind it, and the order of the houses is the order of the turning sky.

The house systems disagree, and here is how much

This is one of the cusps the systems argue about. Placidus, Koch and Equal will often put your 2nd cusp in different signs from one another, and when two readings of one chart disagree about where the money house begins, this is usually why.

Whole sign sidesteps the argument by having no intermediate cusps at all: the sign after your rising sign is the 2nd, entire.

A question to sit with

What feels worth it to you, and does how you spend your time and money reflect that?
